Nonprofit writing. I do research, writing and strategy planning for foundations and nonprofits, primarily in the areas of the arts, media, health, and social entrepreneurship. Clients have included the Ford Foundation, Philanthropy New York, Funders for LGBTQ Issues, GrantCraft, Active Voice, Public/Private Ventures, Columbia Center for Oral History, and others.
Freelance writing. My writing about the arts and travel has appeared in such publications as The New York Times, San Francisco Magazine, Esopus, Paste, Filmmaker, the Christian Science Monitor, The Advocate, and others.
Blog/podcast. I have a blog and podcast on the many forms of storytelling, at www.InsideStoriesOnline.com. On that site, you can also find my audio walking tours of San Francisco.
Video. Several of my short videos are available on this site.
Previous work. Previously, I have been a researcher for playwright Anna Deavere Smith, news reporter for KPFA Radio, and counselor for homeless youth. I also used to coordinate a program in storytelling and oral history, for which I produced events, radio programs and workshops. I have volunteered as a mediator, and a Holocaust oral history interviewer.
Degrees and awards. I have a bachelor's degree from Brown University in Russian Language and Literature, and master's degrees from the Divinity School and the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. I have been awarded grants and fellowships from the Echoing Green Foundation, the San Francisco Arts Commission, the Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies, the Potrero Nuevo Fund, and others.
